In 2019, Jumbla gave myself, Elena Dunwoodie, Jennifer Cheng, and Steph Jee the opportunity to work on an internal project to celebrate International Women’s Day. So over the course of two weeks, we collaborated on this looping animation. We wanted to convey that women come in all shapes and sizes and that they should all be equally important and visible.
Jenny designed the characters and then Elena, Steph and I worked together to animate them. This was a difficult but fun challenge, as we had to figure out the points of when to merge between our separate animations. Steph works at the London based studio so it was fun to wake up every day and see more progress on the project. I loved working on my three characters; the lady with the blue pants, who then transitions into the girl with her hands up and then into the lady who kicks her leg up.
After we were happy with the final animation, we got every single woman that works in the studio; the producers, the managers, the freelancers and so on, to come into the recording booth and make any and all sounds they could possibly make. I contributed a lot to this – in the video you can hear me loudly say “WHAT!” and “HellOOOOOO!”
Special thanks to Sean Crowley who mixed all our voices together.
I am especially proud of this project because it gave me the opportunity to collaborate with other women in the same industry, its message resonating with me, and it honestly looks fantastic!
